Green Bay pest control

We are Wisconsin's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Green Bay raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Green Bay pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Green Bay Raccoon Control Tip: How To Make A Raccoon Trap

Raccoons are animals that can elicit very different reactions from different people, and those who have yards and gardens may see them as a pest a nuisance, while those who only see them from time to time may think they are quite cute. In truth, if you are dealing with a raccoon problem in or around your home then raccoons can be a real problem, so it is natural to want to get rid of the problem as soon as possible. Anyone who has tried repellents will find them to be fairly ineffective, so the next step is to try and trap and remove the animal, and while there are commercial traps available, some people can have some success with simple home-made traps too.

Different Types Of Raccoon Trap

There are several different types of trap that can be used to catch a raccoon, and these can vary from those that are designed to allow you to catch and release the raccoon through to those that are designed to be lethal. In terms of those designed to catch a raccoon, and then allow it to be released, then these will usually require a cage or container in which to transport the animal. Those that are lethal tend to be ones that will either strangle or crush the animal, and this type of trap has many problems, and is just as likely to catch cats or other pets as it is to catch a raccoon, and can be indiscriminate.

What You Will Need For The Trap

To create a simple trap the first thing that you will need is a solid container with smooth sides that should be able to hold the raccoon, and a metal garbage can should do the job here. You will also need something to weigh down the can, and stop the raccoon from tipping over, and while some people use cinder blocks, these can help the raccoon to climb, so water can work well at this point. You will also need a plank of wood, and a picnic table or something similar that will allow the raccoon to climb up to the edge of the garbage can. A little bit of food to use as bait will complete the equipment that you need for this type of trap.

Building Your Trap

The first step is to place the garbage can next to the picnic table, and then to balance plank of wood over the edge of the garbage can, so that the weight of the raccoon will cause it to tip into the garbage can. Pour water into the can up to at least three or four inches so that it makes the can difficult to tip over, the key here is to have enough water to keep the can from tipping, but not so much that the animal drowns. Then you should place the bait on the plank of wood above the water, and then make sure all your pets are indoors for the evening. Once you have caught the raccoon, be careful when transporting it, and try to release it at least ten miles away from your property.

Raccoon Traps To Avoid

You should try to avoid any traps that are lethal when it comes to dealing with a raccoon problem, especially if you live in an urban area, as you don't want to have killed a friend or neighbor's pet by mistake. Lethal traps are indiscriminate, and as the bait used for raccoon is also attractive to other animals it can be a real risk. If you don't want to make your own trap, then cage traps are affordable and available from hardware stores and garden centers, and can be a very good way of dealing with a raccoon problem.
